Hear Your People Sing

Our team outside of Watoto Church

Happy Sunday! Today was full of learning about the Ugandan church - past, present, and future. We sang "Holy Forever" during worship at Watoto Church today, and I love how it reminds us that all of God's people sing His praises - now and forever.

A thousand generationsFalling down in worshipTo sing the song of ages to the LambAnd all who've gone before usAnd all who will believeWill sing the song of ages to the Lamb

And the angels cry, HolyAll creation cries, HolyYou are lifted high, HolyHoly foreverHear Your people sing, HolyTo the King of Kings, HolyYou will always be, HolyHoly forever

Today, various generations, tribes, tongues, nationalities, worshiped God all around the world. We visited Watoto Church, which has a more western church feel to it (as opposed to an African feel), from the worship to the atmosphere. It was great for the team to experience the similarities to our own church, like partaking in communion together on the first Sundays of the month, to some of the differences. We discussed many of these in our family time this evening and it was a great way to process through what it looks like to be the Church and worship God together.

All in the bus ready to go to church!

After lunch in and a tour of downtown Kampala, the capital of Uganda, Andrew and Fatit (I will have to confirm spelling of that name tomorrow...sorry!) took us to the Namugongo Martyr Museum. Our tour guide, Jacob, walked us through the historical sight where 25 Ugandan Christians were murdered for their faith by their king back in the 19th century. If not for these Christians and their faith, the Ugandan Church would not look like it does today! Perhaps most challenging and incredible of all, both the the king who ordered their execution and the executioner himself came to believe in Jesus Christ and proclaim Him as Lord later in their lives - what a testament to God's amazing plan!

Ended the day in the best way possible - singing together while Jacob and Matthew led us in worship on guitar

That is a quick recap of today. Everyone is still doing well and staying healthy, so thank you for your prayers! Tomorrow we start our week of school visits! We will mostly be visiting primary (elementary) schools where we will teach classes, sing songs, dance, and act out Biblical skits. I can't wait to watch these students start practically serving tomorrow - it's going to be great!

The morning will start super early, so I'm going to get myself to bed. Sula bulungi for now!
